Baltimore Riots

What’s going on in Baltimore? Do the creators of The Wire have anything to say about this? There have been riots in Baltimore because of the death of Freddie Gray. The writer The Wire has had something to say about it. He is not happy about the situation and there are so many missing links in this case that nothing is for sure yet.

People are not sure what happened with his death exactly but from the reports CNN said that Mr. Gray is put under arrest after a bike chase. He was injured before he was put into custody and didn’t receive treatment. The police put him into a van to transport him and he later died and the causes have not been found. Due to Freddie’s death people of Baltimore have started to riot and cause all sorts of problems. They believe that Freddie was murdered by the police and this is there form of protest. Due to the connection of the show The Wire and Baltimore the creator David Simons has spread his opinion around the world.

The Wire is a T.V show that people claim to be the best drama T.V show that was ever. It was canceled in 2008 and millions of people believe that it was canceled too early. The show took place in Baltimore and it dealt with the police and several drug busts that they would destroy. Once the creator of the show heard what was going on he took to the internet to state his feelings on the matter. He shared his feelings on his blog. He stated:

Yes, there is a lot to be argued, debated, addressed.  And this moment, as inevitable as it has sometimes seemed, can still, in the end, prove transformational, if not redemptive for our city.   Changes are necessary and voices need to be heard.  All of that is true and all of that is still possible, despite what is now loose in the streets.

But now — in this moment — the anger and the selfishness and the brutality of those claiming the right to violence in Freddie Gray’s name needs to cease.  There was real power and potential in the peaceful protests that spoke in Mr. Gray’s name initially, and there was real unity at his home going today.  But this, now, in the streets, is an affront to that man’s memory and a dimunition of the absolute moral lesson that underlies his unnecessary death.

If you can’t seek redress and demand reform without a brick in your hand, you risk losing this moment for all of us in Baltimore.  Turn around.  Go home.  Please. (Simons)

He is not happy about everything that is happening and he wishes what several people around America wish. We wish for this to stop it is hurting people and it is not solving anything it is just creating a bigger problem. But, the main problem in this is that no one knows what happen to Freddie and people are seeking justice but they are coming to some conclusions.

Several people believe that the man was beaten by police and later died because of the mistreatment. This idea is what is causing the riots. They think that Freddie is another victim of police brutality. Others believe that since the man didn’t receive treatment as soon as he was arrested his condition became worse and later died because he wasn’t taken care of. However, I can’t help but think that there is more to this story.

I think the situation is messed up. There might be truth in all of these cases. I believe that Freddie was hurt before arrest and that he should have been taken to a hospital but I also believe something horrible could have happened to the man while he was in the van. People can be horrible weather they are police of not. I think something happened that made him worse from his original problem I also think that the riots should stop because people are just making the problem worse and they are hurting people that didn’t do anything and that isn’t helping thus whole situation is not solving the problem it is making it worse.

Sanctuary

This show came out in 2008 on the Sci-Fi (SyFy). I was looking forward to this show from the first commercial. I am a huge Amanda Tapping fan. I watched her in all ten seasons of Stargate SG-1. It is one of my favorite shows. Its line up with both Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping was perfect. SG-1 ended on 2007 after ten seasons and it made me sad because I grew to love every character in that show. It became a part of my life. I had been watching it since I was 6. It’s hard to let go of a show that is that close to your heart even if the show lost its feel around season eight (opinion). Anyways, I was looking forward to this show because it is exactly what SyFy needed after SG-1 was gone. The Story is based mainly off of two Characters Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and Dr. William Zimmerman (Robin Dunne). The show told place in modern day in a mansion they call the Sanctuary. Its purpose is to provide Sanctuary for mythical beings that normal people believe are myths. It is ran by Magnus and a few of her close peers. She searches the world looking for these beings trying to find them a safe place to stay or getting them out of the real world so that they don’t hurt anyone.

The show went on for four seasons so some people might think that it had its time. I believe that it is the opposite. The show ended with so many possibilities. I don’t want to go into great detail due to spoilers but it had more of a story to tell.  On top of all that the show was to continue. They said that there would be another season but it got canceled in the summer before the show began. The reason, I have found, is that no one picked up the series for the new season. So they wanted to try for a new season but nothing came together. What are your thoughts on this show choice and how it died? Do you believe the same as me, or something different?
